Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities: MS SQL Admin, MS SQL Admin, Database Admin, Database Admin, Database High Availability, Database Performance Tuning, Database Backup and Recovery, Infra Storage Administration Skill & Job Requirements: - - >Database Admin( L1) - Entry level position.

Works under close supervision to perform low- level database management tasks such as adding users, managing space etc

Participates in testing back- ups, ensuring maximum up- time and maximum performance of database

Familiarity with basic administrative commands is expected at this level
Front- line interaction with users to assist with low level trouble- shooting requirements - - >Database Admin( L2) - A fully contributing team member who performs database management tasks such as meeting user access requirements and resolving their problems.

Responsible for ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly. Writes database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary with some general supervision.

Front- line interaction with users to assist with escalated trouble- shooting requirements. - - >Database High Availability ( L3) - Knowledge of HA ( High Availability - RAC / Cluster / Replication / Data guard/ Standby / Database Failover strategy ?Database DR strategy / Flashback) How is it setup and configured What happens during a fail- over What happens during fail- back? When is it typically done? What are the steps a DBA should perform in the event of a fail- over and fail- ba - - >Database Performance Tuning( L3) - Good Knowledge in Performance Tuning ( Understanding SQL Server profiler and performance monitor. Understand Performance counters. Understanding Query execution plans. Handling fragmentation, statistics and index related issues.

Logical and Physical DB Design) - Planning for Performance in Database Design. Configurations parameter tuning. - - >Infra Storage Administration( L1) - Basic knowledge of Storage devices, RAID, Storage device connectivity, Networked Storage topologies, Storage protocols, Storage management, File Systems, Data Management, Data backup and Data protection - - >Database Backup and Recovery( L3) - Design, Plan and Implement Backup and Recovery Methods? Developing a backup and recovery strategy? DB2 UDB Advanced Recovery for Multiple Partition Databases Identify type of Frequency of Data changes, how quickly the recovery needs to be done, identify which backup solution to use, storage needs.

( RMAN / Native Tools) - - >MS SQL Admin( L2) - Understand New Features in SQL Server 2005 Data transfer and connectivity command list BCP, OSQL, ISQL, DTS Security - - Creation of logins / users. Grant/ deny permissions. Advanced Database Maintenance work - - moving data bases between servers, planning and sizing databases. Configuration Management: Good knowledge of SP configure, clear understanding of configuration parameters of SQL Server at server level as well as database level. Understanding Query execution plan Understanding of SQL Profiler & other Windows performance monitoring tools , Performance counters , analyzing profiler outputs Remote Access - - Advanced - - Linked Server, Querying linked server data TSQL - - Advanced - - Writing complex queries / SP. Resolving performance issues in SP / Queries. Log Shipping - - Setup / Initialization / Failover Replication - - Setup/ Initialization Connectivity Issues - resolving any connection issue to SQL Server like SSPI context error / SSL error. Handling Fragmentation / Statistics/ Index related issues related to slow performance.

Logical & Physical Database Design, normalization, Codd's Rule Access Violation - - monitoring and troubleshooting any AV's in SQL Server. Cluster Administration - - Understanding of Cluster Administration tool, Start/ Stop SQL resources, Online/ Offline Cluster Resources, getting SQL Cluster status using query

Candidate Desired Profile
Administrator responsible for resolving escalated troubleshooting requirements. Responsible for guiding junior administrator in trouble shooting non- routine and complex troubleshooting requirements. As a senior member responsible for ensuring SLA is met and there are no complaint from customer. Technically sound, Contributes to KM and practice building. Prepares the Change management plan and gets sign- off. Conducts planned regular and random Technical audits. Suggest improvement plans Implement and share best practices. Implement automation of regular admin activities. Capture and report metrics like Devices/ FTE , incidents/ FTE, incidents/ devices , SA metrics. Perform trend analysis on the data captured.
