Goal of our
department:
The Munich
Engineering & Supply Chain IT (ESIT) department supports the global
information technology architecture and hardware/software applications for
Intel's Mobile and Communications Group. This includes the supply chain
solutions, data centers, backup and restore, compute and build infrastructure
and enterprise applications. The key business for ESIT Munich is the R&D
community for mobile phone hardware and software development.
Goal of the
position:
As a member
of the Munich ESIT team the Senior System Engineer will be a specialist in
supporting Unix based compute infrastructure, administration methodology,
name-, compute- and login-services. The main focus of the role is the
definition and maintenance of a global administration methodology and the
definition of a standardized operational framework of the login services and
compute services. The candidate is part of a global team and will implement
global standards, procedures, and other infrastructure necessary to support the
global user community in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Tasks:
Responsibilities
will include but not be limited to:

Integrates, installs, configures, tests, and supports compute environment
systems
- Applies
advanced troubleshooting to data center software/hardware issues
- Drives
continuous improvement efforts to meet data center health goals, as well as
emerging capacity and performance needs
- Definition
and adaption of the standardized administration methodology based on the
scVenus tool set and Intel cfEngine based solution.
- Represents
local requirements to global, cross-functional, and cross-site teams. Interacts
with end users, IT partners, system architects, and service and support teams
worldwide
- Serves as
site expert for the local compute environment (compute and build servers)
- Operation
and configuration of a load sharing facility (LSF) and support the migration to
other load sharing solutions
- Acts as
contact person for R&D infrastructure topics and provide guidance on IT
policies to end users
- Member or
global IT infrastructure architecture board
- Position
might include on-call support out of office hours
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's
or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related
fields
- Minimum of
6 years working experience in a data center environment
- Proficient
in Linux and Solaris operating systems. Windows would be an added advantage

Familiarity with administration methodology concepts and technologies (scVenus,
cfEngine)
- Expert
knowledge on high performance computing solutions like LSF
- Experience
with configuration management systems
- Good
engineering skills in Linux and Solaris server administration (familiarity with
Active Directory, LDAP)
- Strong
written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent
English language skills - both written and spoken
- Patient
and professional interaction with the end user
- Strong
analytical and problem solving skills
- Proficient
in Microsoft Office
- A team
player
- Good time
management abilities and flexibility on multiple task assignments
- Proactive
problem solving abilities
- Ability to
be flexible in working hours to interact with peers from other regions
