Roles and Responsibilities:
This person will provide mechanical design, process engineering, and technology investigation exploration support to the Industrial Design team. This role is cross-functional having interaction with mechanical designers, electrical engineers, industrial designers, management, and manufacturing partners. Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, be organized and able to work under strict deadlines, and be assertive. A successful candidate will have shipped high volume products in the consumer electronics field.

Since this position requires extensive collaboration with the Industrial Design team, unique expertise is required to translate desired ID requests into realistic engineering goals. This includes familiarity with a wide range of disciplines such as glass processing, metal forming, plastics, heat rejection from electrical components, environmental / shock / vibe testing.

The candidate must also have extensive interaction and vendor bring-up experience such as: signing initial non-disclosure agreements, working with internal / external legal teams on business agreements, and, assessing supplier capability. This position will push the limits of industrial and mechanical design, this likely means new supply chain vendors need to be selected, qualified, and monitored during production.


Qualifications

10+ years in Product Design, with significant experience in shipping high-volume consumer electronics
Able to think like a system architect, a mechanical designer, an assembly process engineer, and material engineer - all at the same time. This role encompasses many disciplines.
Worked with cross functional teams spread over multiple times zones
Been on-site during launch and production of a shipping product, collaboratively working with large OEM/JDM teams
Be proactive, assertive, and clear with intentions
Effective interpersonal skills
Able to travel 25% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
Familiar with common computer programs such as: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel
Desirable CAD software experience: Pro/E, Solid Works, or equivalent
